Agreed. Here is the opening of the bug report so that
someone can check this off once it's done.

I might also point out that this might be an
opportunity for some automation. What about randomly
picking a mirror at first, then, if it fails,
automatically picking another one? Or perhaps
attempting to pick the geographically closest mirror?
Seems to me like dealing with mirrors for plugins is
minutiae with which people could get their hands dirty
/if they so desired/, but shouldn't bother those who
just don't care and want to install a plugin.
